DonCARES Gives Away Over Seven-Hundred Dollars Worth of Whole Foods Gift Cards to Philadelphians in

Since February 2019, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. has given away over $700 worth of Whole Foods Gift Cards to Philadelphians in Need. From February to June, gift cards were given to members of the U School community who were struggling with food insecurity. During the summer months, gift cards are given to members of the North Philly Schools Community who are in need. The U.S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. On Saturday, July 13, 2019, from noon until 2 PM, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. and Strong Men Overcoming Obstacles Through Hard Work (S.M.O.O.T.H) Temple Section hosted DonCARES of Philadelphia's Third Annual Hydration Walk for the homeles The idea to serve started in 2017 when DonCARES Founder and Executive Director saw individuals in need. "It was a hot summer day and I was thirsty. I went into a WaWa and bought a water bottle. As I walked out, I saw a homeless man lying on the sidewalk without a shirt. On Sunday, July 7, 2019, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. Board Secretary Alexandra Gordon and President Donovan Forrest were guests on Millennial High Radio (106.5 FM). Millennial High Radio Hosts Tia Whitfield and Spicy Brown led the conversation. During the interview, Forrest described his focus of the summer being on developing leaders in his organization and delegating roles and responsibilities. On Monday, July 1, 2019, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. Executive Director Donovan Forrest spoke to youth at Ace Camp in West Philadelphia. Ace Camp is a summer program hosted by an after-school program at Martha Washington Elementary School at 766 North 44th Street in the Belmont neighborhood of West, Philadelphia. While as a visitor, Forrest facilitated an empowerment workshop with 10, 11 and 12-year-olds and had them write and present their personal positive affirmations.
