DonCARES Speaks at Kenderton Elementary School

On Wednesday, May 8th from 9-11 AM, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. Executive Director Donovan Forrest had the chance to speak at Kenderton Elementary School's Career Day. Hosted by Men of Frederick Douglass, the Career Day was an intitiaive spearheaded by educators Dana Frye-Thompson and Ashley Carmichael.  

 

In a video Forrest recorded the morning of the panel, he discussed his raising nearby at Zion Baptist Church of Philadelphia and how he spent many of his days around 12th and Venango with Troop 303 of the Boy Scouts of America.  

 

Upon arriving at Kenderton Elementary, Forrest ran into his mentor Rev. Michael Major of Called to Serve, Community Development Corporation. The two talked about the work both of their non-profits were engaging with in North Philadelphia. 

 

While on the panel, Forrest spoke to 3rd grade students in Ms. Dana Frye-Thomposon's class about college and how he is studying to become a high school teacher. The students were engaged and were happy to have the panelists in their classroom. 

 

In addition to Forrest, other panelists included Oba Sankofa, P. Michael from Junior Barber Academy and the founder of TRIBE Worldwide Apparel Co.
