How did you begin your work with DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc.?
I was a member of NCNW, where I came in contact with mentors from DonCARES. I thought it was a great organization, but after talking with friends and people who live in the surrounding Temple community, I realized that not many people knew about it. I then decided to reach out to the CBS3 community engagement department to see if they could shine a spotlight on the organization.
How has mentoring work influenced your career decisions?
My experiences working with special education students and seeing the positive effect mentorship has on young adults has heavily influenced my career decisions. I plan to pursue a law degree and use it to be a legal advocate for children.
What do you like most about DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc?
What I like most about DonCARES is that the mentors are college students who've had similar experiences as the mentees. Because they are young and people of color, just like the students they mentor, they've faced the same obstacles in pursuing an education.
As a member of the board of directors, how do you plan to further DonCARES mission in North Philadelphia?
I hope to continue building awareness for DonCARES within the Philadelphia community. If we're able to make more college students aware of this organization, we'll be able to build more mentorship relationships with young students and boost college attendance in low-income neighborhoods
