July 7, 2019

On Sunday, July 7, 2019, DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. Board Secretary Alexandra Gordon and President Donovan Forrest were guests on Millennial High Radio (106.5 FM). Millennial High Radio Hosts Tia Whitfield and Spicy Brown led the conversation.

During the interview, Forrest described his focus of the summer being on developing leaders in his organization and delegating roles and responsibilities. Forrest quoted the African Proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" as his reason for focusing more on leadership. Forrest and Gordon are graduating in May 2020 and have varying plans on continuing their social justice work.

Gordon who wants to pursue a career in international law believes that all aren't free until we all are free. Still debating whether she wants to pursue a fellowship or take a gap year after graduation, Gordon believes that she will always be connected to the work of DonCARES whether directly or indirectly.

When asked about the future of DonCARES, Forrest responded that he desires to build a charter-school family that serves students in Elementary/Middle & High Schools in North Philadelphia. Described by Gordon as a "social engineer," Forrest is confident that with the right contacts and support, the idea of a founding a non-profit charter school isn't far fetched.
