Mentoring Moment: Anisa & Dior

On Wednesday, February 26th 2020, DonCARES Mentor Anisa Are and her 12th-grade mentee Dior enjoyed a meal at The Dandelion Pub in Rittenhouse Square. The purpose of DonCARES restaurant outings is to give positive dining experiences for both mentees and their mentors. As an organization, our goal is that mentees can leave restaurant outings knowing how to calculate a percentage tip to their server.

As a sixteen-year-old high school senior, Dior always wanted a bigger sister. As a student at The U School, Dior was open to receiving mentoring services from DonCARES to help guide her through her college admissions process and senior project requirements.

Anisa (senior) is a motivated student at Temple's Fox School of Business joined DonCARES in the Summer of 2019. Both Anisa and her mentee Dior were matched in September 2019. Since the two became friends, they've worked on Dior's senior project, started a documentary on Mass-Incarceration, talked teenage life, and Anisa's experience overcoming obstacles and excelling as a first-generation college student of color.
